Today was my first day on the University of Chicago campus. I’ll be extremely busy this week with orientation, but I thought I would let you know what I’ve been up to so far.
First, I flew from Seattle to Chicago between 11 PM Pacific and 5 AM Central. It was approximately a four hour flight. I have been sleeping poorly all summer, and only got a fifteen or so minute nap on the plane, if that. I haven’t slept since then. It’s been fun.
After splitting the cab fare with a fellow first year, I proceeded to do nothing particularly productive until Snell-Hitchcock actually opened at 10 AM. I met my roommate Derek face to face finally (he’s a real cool guy by the way), and we proceeded to move in! With the help of his mother and aunt (an interior designer), we accomplished arranging our furniture for a maximal chill factor. It’s basically a lounge.
We had dinner at Bartlett with our house, which was indeed cool. There was also a house meeting which I successfully napped in, but that didn’t help a whole lot. I got my Chicago ID Card too! Of course I’ve met plenty of people, and it’s been great.
Convocation is tomorrow, then the serious business starts. My calculus placement test is on Tuesday. I’m too tired to give you a cohesive picture of today or this week, but hopefully you’ll see that I’m getting stuff done, having fun, and all that jazz.
Here are a few pictures of our room! First, a really bad picture from my really bad camera showing Derek’s blur, our beds, my desk, and the Tableā¢.
And next up, one of the totally messed up dressers, and the awesome chair!
